RE: Interesting article? Hope there is no truth to it.

I can see this happening at some point. The US cannot sustain all the social programs such as medicaid, medicare, the suscription drug program etc.And now with the government putting all this money into the bailout, the collapse of our government will come even sooner. We cannot spend our way to prosperity.

Digital TV questions, weak or sporatic signals

I hooked up one of my converter boxes.Picture is great.I thought from reading other questions on this forum, that you either have signal or you don't. Some stations will kind of freeze up like a DVD that has a scratch on it,then the signal will go back to normal. I also have one station that I get a signal but it is really fragmented.A few more things. I have one channel that I get a really good analogue signal but I can't get it on digital. Could it be that they are not yet transmitting in digital? Also, some channels will show a number at the top of the screen and a message will come up that says" waiting".I wait for awhile but nothing happens. What's up with that? Thanks.

RE: Badlands, SD

We satyed at Rafter J back in the late 90's. They had horseback riding at that time. That is a great campground and you might want to check there.

RE: I-78, western NJ - eastern PA

I was on it about 2 weeks ago from Shartlesville to Allentown. They repaved most of it in that section and it is now a pleasure to drive.

RE: National Park Campground

In addition to NP and Corps Campgrounds, you also have National Forest,BLM,State,County and City parks that have rates well below that of commercial campgrounds. Most National Parks do not have hookups but many of others have at least electric.

RE: Raccoon Creek State Park - Water Quality

Is there some reason why you are questioning the water quality at this particular park? While I haven't stayed at Raccoon Creek,I have stayed at many other Pennsylvania Parks and used the water in all of them and never had a problem.

RE: Dead Horse Ranch AZ State Park

Other than the weekends,I doubt that it will be full in October. We were there about 10 years ago and had no problem getting a space with electric. As to what to do,Jerome has a lot of neat things to see.If you like history, you're in for a treat. There is the home of the former owner of one of the mines. The Douglas mansion looks like it did back in 1917.We really enjoyed the Gold King Mine which is just outside of town.It was like taking a trip back in time.Tuzigoot is Indian ruins from the 1200's. You can see that from the campgrounds. We also visited old Fort Verde. It is a restored cavalary post from the late 1800's.

RE: Watch carefully which CG you stay at in Tennessee

We just stayed in a Pennsylvania State park.In the off season, you are allowed to stay 21 days. When we arrived, there was an old truck camper, plus another old truck with about 6 people, all adults, staying in one site. They had a tarp tied between several trees and the truck. It looked like something out of the "Grapes of Wrath." We came in on a Sunday afternoon. As the weekend campers left, they went to the dumpster to dig through it to see if they could find anything of value. They also came around with a wagon and picked up all the fire wood that was left over. At one point one of the rangers came around and while I couldn't hear the whole conversation, from what I could hear,it sounded like the ranger was chewing them out for something. They seemed nice enough and did not cause us any problems. On Monday morning, the one truck without the camper left, possibly going to work. I would also assume that these people may have been homeless or down on their luck so I am not criticizing them at all. The only reason I posted this was because I think we are going to see alot more of this as the economy continues to deteriorate. Some of us may find ourselves in the same boat.

RE: NFS RV park review website?

That's the one I use too. Suzi and Fred Dow have done a great job of compiling the information by staying in or visiting most of these campgrounds.

RE: Flagstaff Az.campgrounds

We liked Cicrle Pines KOA. It had indoor pool, 2 indoor hot tubs, laundry and a nice store. It's just off I-40.

Shareware

Maybe a dumb question, but what's the difference between shareware and freeware?

RE: Assateague Island

I've noticed the NPS via reserveamerica.com seem to be booked a year out while the state run part appears to have sites available for next spring. Let me give you a tip. If you don't try to book a weekend, you can get a site in the NP almost anytime. Two years ago we were able to get the site we wanted because we went from Sunday through Thursday. While we were there,(first week of August)I would say about 20% of the bayside sites were empty. We prefer the bayside because there is some grass and some sites even have shade. The NP does have showers, but they are "warm" water. Not really that bad. Also,go to all the ranger programs that are available. Our favorite was the nightime campfire program on the beach.

RE: What about starting a Veterans Forum?

Next would be an electricians forum, then builders, then politicians, then, etc etc. As a vet, I don't know that it's needed, but we do have a cooks forum,a disabled forum and a snowbirds forum.I suppose all of those could be covered under " general RVing".

RE: Cheated death, barely----Propane Alert! Long...

Another reason NOT to drive with propane on. The manufacturers should make it harder to turn on those knobs. I have done the same thing myself but noticed it right away. They should make them so you have to push in and then turn.I am very concerned about propane safety and often turn off the propane when leaving the trailer. Obviously if you are running the fridge on propane when boondocking, you can't do that, but if I can leave run the fridge on A/C,I only turn the gas on to heat the water ,then back off.Glad you're ok but it could ahve been bad. I have seen 2 homes and a post office in our area that were leveled by gas explosions over the past 20 years.

Did you know?

Wednesday, March 26, 2008 Federal camping fees way up in California According to the Sacramento Bee, Some camping fees at national forest campgrounds are going up 70%. The new fees will be felt the most in Sequoia National Forest. Camp fees in some Eldorado National Forest and Mendocino National Forest campgrounds went up in January. Some of these camp fees seem small to city dwellers with jobs, but these campgrounds are often used by retirees who have lots of time to stay but little dough. A two week stay will cost an extra $98. Don't recall seeing this before?

Trout Pond

I don't know how many of you have been to Trout Pond Campground in the George Washington NF,but we just returned from our second trip.We love this place.Secluded, with some electric hookups in a forest setting. Nice lake with beach, but Trout Pond, after which the campground is named is no more. A sink hole developed and the pond is gone!Trout Pond was the only natural occurring lake in West Virginia and now it's just a hole in the ground. The other bigger man made lake is still there.
